How to Use Lorem Ipsum for Website Design in 2026 – Complete Guide for Designers

If you are a web designer or developer, you have definitely faced this problem. Your design is ready, but the client has not sent the final content. What do you do? You cannot leave the page empty.

This is where Lorem Ipsum comes to save your day.

Many beginners think Lorem Ipsum is just some random meaningless text. But professional designers know, it is a powerful tool to make your design look real and professional without waiting for real content.

In this guide, I will show you exactly how I use Lorem Ipsum for my website projects.

How I Use It For Wireframes and Mockups

When you create a wireframe in Figma or Adobe XD, never use "Content will come here". It looks unprofessional.

Instead, use 2-3 paragraphs of Lorem Ipsum. It gives the client a real feeling of how the website will look after launch. The text has a natural distribution of letters, so your layout looks balanced.

Pro Tip: For headings, use 5-7 words. For paragraph, use 40-50 words. You can generate this exact length on our advanced tool Lorem Pro Tool. We also have a simple version on LoremIpsumPro.

My Biggest Mistake That You Should Avoid

This is the biggest mistake I see. Many designers copy-paste the same classic line "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." on every section.

Google and clients both catch it. It makes your design look fake.

Use different variations. For example, use our "Modern Tech" style for a startup website and "Classic Book" style for a blog website. We have 4 unique styles on our tool for this exact reason.

How Much Text Should You Use? My Personal Rule

Here is my simple rule that I follow for 5 years:

• Hero Section: 15-20 words max.
• About Section: 50-70 words.
• Service Cards: 20-30 words per card.
• Blog Section: 100-150 words for preview.

When You Should NOT Use Lorem Ipsum

Yes, there are times when you should avoid it.

Do not use Lorem Ipsum on your live website. I have seen many live websites ranking on Google with Lorem Ipsum still on their homepage. This is very bad for SEO. Google will think your site is incomplete.

Always replace it with real, valuable content before you publish. If you need ideas for real content, you can read our detailed guide on What is Lorem Ipsum History and Meaning.

Final Words

Lorem Ipsum is not just dummy text. It is a bridge between your design and your client's imagination. Use it smartly, use different styles, and always control the length.
